Nerf bars are probably the most popular vehicle add-ons that are installed on pickup trucks, SUVs, and other high suspension types of vehicles.  Usually, these are installed just below the driver and passenger doors.  These accessories are made for the purpose of having additional step in order for passengers to safely board or exit the vehicle; especially for children who needs assistance.  Visually, when step bars are installed, it gives pickup trucks a rugged look and design.

Normally, truck steps that are made with chrome finish, powder coated steel, and stainless steel are the ones installed for aesthetic purposes.  These are installed to make the pickup trucks look exceptional and flashy. This is best suited for show trucks being listed for competitions.  Although they may be appealing to the eyes, these types of nerf bars lack the functionality required by some truck owners.  For functionality purposes, there are sports nerf bars and wheel to wheel nerf bars.

Sports nerf bars are considered to be the conventional type.  This type of step bar is short and extends only from wheel portions to the area behind the door on both the side of the driver and passenger.  Installing these types of nerf bars will help protect the vehicle from road fragments and rocks that may possibly hit the side doors. The sport standard nerf bars have foot pads made of rubber or urethane to be specific as anti-slip grip pads for better footing.

Wheel to wheel side steps are longer types that are installed from the portion behind the front wheel and extends to the portion right before the rear wheel.  The wheel to wheel design allows you to step on the bar to reach the cargo bed of your truck. These are just some of the benefits you get from installing this car accessory. In addition to reaching the bed of your truck better, it provides a third step for loading cargo to the top loader of your truck.

You should really go for nerf bars to improve your truck’s functionality and performance. Just a reminder that when your install this accessory, the vehicle’s clearance may be affected. If you have a raised suspension system, then there will be no problems. However, if you have a lowered cab of your truck or SUV, you may encounter this issue. Full-sized pickup trucks are the only ones which can accommodate 4-inch step bar styles.
